At our look inside the shop today we are featuring the brilliant Field Guides created by Dana Chisnell who set up Civic Designing and who is now at the Centre For Civic Design. They believe that democracy is a design problem and want to create works that help in the communication between government officials and citizens.
The Field Guides team did some amazing research during 2012 and 2013. They looked at voter education materials, county election websites, and posters and signage in the polling place. They distilled this research in to a volume of books about ballot design, plain language, usability testing, and procedures for poll workers.
We have some of the Field Guides here at the Civic Shop and think they are a brilliant example of civic design and important civic information becoming more accessible.
If you want to order the guides online then you can do so here.
